Dune Lark and Walvis Bay Lagoon

On the Kuiseb Dunes and riverbed, we will not only search for the only true endemic bird of Namibia, the Dune Lark but will also look for various reptiles, desert adapted plants and interesting dune insects.  Many of these species are uniquely adapted to the desert environment and sandy substrates and mostly are reliant on the dense fogs, which dominate the weather patterns; fog precipitation is the main source of water to most of the desert fauna and flora. Your expert guide will explain the ways and means of obtaining this.

In terms of numbers and species of birds, the lagoon  is the most important coastal wetland in Southern Africa, and is probably one of the three most important coastal wetlands in Africa.  This area regularly supports over 100,000 birds in summer and 50,000 in winter.  Most birds which use the wetlands in summer are non-breeding intra-African and Palearctic migrants.
